2012 Reading Challenge Summary

In 2011 I challenged myself to read 25 books and made it to 21.

In 2012 I gave myself the same reading challenge and managed to read 39 books!

My favorites for the year were:

Elizabeth the Queen:  The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman – this was a recommendation from a blogging buddy and became the first book read by my new neighborhood book club.  Very emotional read.

Love…. From both sides by Nick Spauliding – I actually laughed out loud repeatedly as I read this one.

One Pink Line by Dina Silver

Empty Chairs by Stacy Danson – Memoir of child abuse

Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray

The Little Prisoner:  A Memoir by Jane Elliott – Memoir of child abuse

Defending Jacob by William Landay

Burned alive:  A victim of the law of men by Souad

I read a variety of books this year including several memoirs and biographies, legal thrillers, and even read a few “chick-lit” type books.  2 of the 39 books were books my 7 year old was reading for his school book reports :-)

The only book that I managed to finish reading that I thought was just horrendous and a complete waste of my time was Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James.  The book was actually painful!  I read the Fifty Shades trilogy and I found the first one interesting enough but then it was steadily down hill from there.  The only good thing was that I discovered that you can borrow e-books for the library so at least she didn’t make any money off of me with this terrible, terrible book!

This year my reading challenge is to read 40 books in 2013 (not including any of Sebastian’s book report books).  It’s been fun to recapture my love for reading over the past 2 years and I really enjoy knowing that with my kindle I always have a book with me.
